Personality answers:

Who in your character's canon influenced the most growth in your character? What do they think about this character?

Assuming this can be a character that appeared before the story’s starting point, Shelly Rainsworth is the one who influenced Break the most. It’s shown in flashbacks that Shelly took him in after he left the Abyss, brought him out of the worst of his depression, and that she was the one who gave him motivation to continue living. While that motivation kept him going, it should be noted that until his last moments, he still believed he was ready for death, however, he had a reason to push through until he died because of her. As for what Break thinks of her, he loved her. A feeling that he never shared with her, although he stayed by her side until she died. She was far too good to be around someone like him. And Yet, she spent her time on him. She saved him, and taught him to smile again, and he can never repay that. She was gentle, kind, patient, and caring, but wouldn’t let him waste his life sulking and punishing himself. She soothed the wound his past left for him by simply being there and not letting him isolate himself. Regardless of how rude he had been at the beginning, she allowed him to stay, and she continued to spend time with him. After recovering, he swore his loyalty to her, and even after her death, would not go against her will. While he gained a friendship/psuedo siblingship with his new master, her daughter, Sharon, he began watching after her under Shelly’s orders. She was the last thing he thought of as he died.

What is your character's biggest ambition at their current canon point? To what lengths would they go to see it to fruition?

Break wants to learn the truth of the Tragedy of Sablier and destroy the Intention of the Abyss. This was a task given to him by the Intention of the Abyss, herself, after Break had been dragged to the Abyss when he ran out of time on his 1st contract, and also after she stole his left eye. She gave him this task in exchange for changing the past and allowing his first masters, the Sinclair family, to survive the assassination that he couldn’t protect them from. While learning the truth of the Tragedy of Sablier was more of means to destroying the Intention of the Abyss, it was a goal he was willing to do almost anything for. A notable exception being when Vincent kidnapped and poisoned Lady Sharon and would only hand over the antidote in exchange for destroying the bell that held part of Alice’s memories from that time. Even after been sent out of the Abyss 30 years after he should’ve been, finding out the Sinclair family died only a few years after the initial assasination attempt, this time their daughter dying as well, and being given a custom made Chain by the Intention of the Abyss that made him blind and was killing him, he continued to work towards that goal. He ended up giving his life to try and reach that goal, but ultimately failing in the end. That being said, his last action, after apologizing for his failure, was giving Oz and company the ability to achieve that goal in his place.

What would it take to truly upset your character, enough that they would act upon their feelings? Are they the sort to forgive?

There are quite a few things that will make Break angry. Self sacrificing types, people living in the past, Lady Sharon being in threatened, and Vincent are the most notable examples. His anger with self sacrifice and living in the past are directly related to his views on his own past self. He dedicated his life to the Sinclair family, and when they died, he abandoned the child he was supposed to protect and became a serial killer in order to change the past. Even still, he couldn’t accomplish what he wanted. He just managed to hurt himself and the people around him. So now, he has very little patience for those kinds of people. While it could be said that he’s being hypocritical given that he gave his life for the Intention of the Abyss and remained caring for Sharon at least in part because of Shelly had asked him to, he doesn’t see it that way because he’s choosing to continue to do these things from his own will, rather than doing them out of a sense of duty. He cares deeply for Sharon, who is one of the people closest to him, if not the person closest to him. He won’t tolerate anyone hurting her. Throughout the series he’s shown to not just be protective of her, but over protective of her, worried that even he will hurt her if he informs her of his blindness. He hates Vincent. Break first met Vincent in the Abyss, and believed that he had some connection to the Tragedy of Sablier. They go through the series with conflicting goals regarding the Tragedy of Sablier, even though they are a part of the same organization, and so they both end up getting in each other’s way. Vincent also kidnapped and poisoned Sharon in order to force Break into destroying the bell that held part of Alice’s memories, and then tried to destroy the antidote, so Break has extra reason to hate him. Break does not forgive easily. That being said, he’s more likely to hold a grudge if someone hurts the people close to him, over himself. As seen, once again, with Vincent and the Intention of the Abyss. He hates Vincent even though very little permanent harm was done, but no longer has any ill will towards the Intention of the Abyss, even though she’s caused more harm.

What would be your character's lowest, darkest moment they've lived through? How did they respond to their troubles and face their demons?

Break’s lowest moment would be after finding out what happened to the Sinclair family after leaving the Abyss. Not only had he failed to protect them once, but he also had abandoned the Sinclair daughter, he killed 116 people, he got dragged into the Abyss, he had his eye taken from him, and he was sent 30 years into the future, all to save them, and they died anyway. They only had a few extra years, and the girl he was supposed to protect died with them this time. He felt everything he had done to try and save them, every sacrifice, was completely pointless. He fell into a deep depression after that. He would isolate himself, scratch at his empty eye socket, and lash out (sometimes even physically) at the people around him. He was completely lost, and as such, he had stopped trying to move forward, opting to sit and stare into the distance. He didn’t see a point in going further. What was left for him anyway? He likely would’ve stayed this way for a long time if not for Shelly. Shelly helped him recover, and find a way to move forward. She gave him the tools he needed to continue moving forward even after he realized he was losing his sight, even when he realized he was dying. He keeps her and her words safe in his heart as he moves forwards. Her memory even gave him the will to fight back when the Baskervilles tried to execute him.

Inventory: Emily the doll, His Carcere (necklace with a mirror on it that holds his Contract with Mad Hatter), A sword cane, A tin of candy
Powers/Abilities:
Swordsmanship: Break was a knight before becoming a valet and is incredibly skilled in sword fighting. Even after losing his vision, he is still shown to be able to more than hold his own in a fight.

Mad Hatter: Break has a contract with a creature known as a Chain. The Mad Hatter Chain allows him to destory things (including the otherwise virtual immortal Baskervilles) at the cost of his own health

Eternal Youth: Due to his contract with Mad Hatter, Break stopped physically aging when he was 24.

Break also cannot get drunk.

The following abilities are from Break being a Child of Ill Omen, however, as he’s not a Baskerville, they are weaker than the other Children of Ill Omen in canon

Reality Warping: As a Child of Ill Omen, Break has a passive ability to warp reality.

Extraplanar Vision: As a Child of Ill Omen, Break can perceive other dimensions (I can’t say he can see them, because he is blind)

Immunity to the Abyss: As a Child of Ill Omen, Break has Immunity to the Abyss. It’s likely why he was the only human to contract with a Chain, get dragged to the Abyss, and not still retain his core identity.

Abyssal Conduit: Children of Ill Omen can be used as a conduit between the material world and the Abyss

Player Goals: My main goal is to push myself outside of what is easy and palletable when it comes to writing. I’ve realized recently that I’ve become hesitant to do anything too bad to my characters or have them react with their full force (even with the proper warnings), and I want to change that. I think it will be easier for me to do so in a game that builds that kind of thing into the setting over one where I would have to seek it out, and could be judged for trying to.
